New Melones Lake is located approximately 10 miles northeast of
Sonora in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's in the heart of
the Mother Lode Gold Country at an elevation of 1,088 feet. New
Melones contains 12,500 surface acres of water with over 100
miles of shoreline and is considered one of California's prime
recreation lakes. There are several campgrounds located near the
lake suitable for both tents and RV's. All boating is permitted
as well as water skiing and jet skis. A full service marina is
available as well as improved launch facilities and boat
rentals. New Melones holds a large population of bass and
catfish with numerous amounts of crappie, Kokanee, and trout
