Hell Hole Reservoir is located approximately 75 miles northeast of Auburn at an elevation of 4,700 feet in the beautiful El Dorado National Forest. The lake contains 1,300 surface acres of water surrounded by rugged rocky shoreline. Camping facilities are available suitable for both tents and RV's just two miles from the lake with tent camping only permitted at the lake; boat-in camping available (no reservations accepted). All boating is permitted as well as water skiing and swimming; improved launching facilities available. Current Hell Hole Reservoir Fishing Report

August 28, 2008. A few anglers have been ripping along the shoreline for browns with minimal results. Kokanee action has been slow for most. The lake is dropping, but the ramp is still in the water.
