Donner Lake rests at an elevation of 5,969 feet in the
beautiful Tahoe National Forest 2 miles west of Truckee. Donner
has 7.5 miles of alpine covered shoreline and crystal clear blue
water. There are three campgrounds offering tent, trailer, or RV
camping as well as two resorts located at the lake. All boating
is permitted as well as water-skiing and jet-skis. Swimming is
permitted and there is a nice swim beach located on the south
shore. Donner offers improved launching facilities as well as a
full service marina with boat rentals located on the north side
of the lake. For the fisherman, Donner holds a good population
of rainbow and brown trout as well as kokanee salmon. For more

August 28, 2008. Scott Kover of Mountain Hardware in Truckee (530) 587-4844 reported continued slow action for trout and kokanee anglers. His advice was to fish deep with orange, red or chartreuse/black lures behind a orange or copper dodger. The anticipated trout plant has not yet occurred.
